The chauffeur service was very satisfactory – having a car on hand for the three transfers made the trip less grueling. I think we were very lucky with the driver we got – David was very professional, on time and flexible. He took the needs of his customers into account and, having realized that it was Ann and Rick’s first trip to the UK, he added extra sightseeing detours to Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. He also proposed a change in itinerary because of heavy traffic on the way home to make sure I made my flight.

Occupied by the Constable family for over 400 years, the house still maintains the atmosphere of a home.
Take refreshments in our newly refurbished Tea Room or bring your own picnic and relax on the lawns and play draughts or croquet by the Orangery. Or for the more energetic, why not take advantage of our free to use Parkland Experience Packs (complete with bug collector, magnifying glass, binoculars and orienteering map) and explore our magnificent parkland, pastures and wild fowl lakes and look for the numerous birds, animals and creepy-crawly 'minibeasts' that inhabit the park.
Whatever you decide, a morning visit to the historic market town of Beverley or the seaside resort of Hornsea with its designer village, followed by an afternoon at Burton Constable Hall will ensure a great day out for all the family. You could even complete your day by taking an early evening meal in one of the three excellent local pubs situated within 3 miles of Burton Constable Hall.

DAVE GORMAN: SIT DOWN, PEDAL, PEDAL, STOP AND STAND UP.
DAVE GORMAN is going back on the road. And when we say "on the road" we really mean it.
Five years after he last toured the UK he's embarking on a truly unique stand-up comedy tour.
A lot of acts will tell you they're covering the length and breadth of the country... but Dave's really doing it.
Dave Gorman:Sit Down, Pedal, Pedal, Stop And Stand Up will see the intrepid comedian covering the extremes of the British mainland as he travels from this land's southernmost point to its northernmost tip, taking in the most easterly and westerly points along the way. If nothing else he'll get to see four lighthouses.
Dave will be performing each and every night of the journey but as this is a tour that promises to reach parts of the country that other tours just don't reach, it goes without saying that the venues will sometimes be a little unconventional too. He'll play in 2000 seat theatres but also 30 seat village halls. He'll be performing in a barn, the odd hotel function room and - odder still - a railway dining car.
Oh, and did we mention he's going to do the whole thing on his push bike? The travelling, we mean. Not the gigs. That'd be silly. He'll be standing up for those. If he still can.
He's 38 and not especially fit. 1500 miles. 32 days in the saddle. 32 nights on the stage. His Mum's told him not to do it but he won't listen.
Not that you need to know all this... after all, it's not a show about the journey. Dave - whose hit Radio 4 series, GENIUS, starts its new BBC TWO incarnation on our TV screens this spring - may be widely acclaimed as the pioneer of documentary comedy but with this show he's going back to his roots as a straight up, one-man-and-a-mic, stand-up whose "material is mercilessly sharp and original" (The Times.) "Gorman has seen his stock rise to such an extent that he's poised, as never before, to make the leap from cult figure to mainstream phenomenon." Daily Telegraph "The man is a true genius." The Mirror.
So yeah... that's it. From the southernmost point to the easternmost point, to the westernmost point to the northernmost point of the British mainland. By bicycle. None of your Land's End to John O'Groats for me. With a gig each night. Nothing to be scared of there. Gulp. Interesting pub-quiz fact for you: Britain isn't quite so vertically aligned as we like to think. It tilts. Edinburgh is further west than Cardiff. Who knew? I know I didn't. But I found out when I started trying to find the westernmost part of mainland Britain. Turns out it's in the Highlands.
On her christening day Princess Aurora is cursed by the wicked fairy Carabosse: one day the Princess will prick her finger on a spindle and die. But the kind Lilac Fairy tempers the curse so the Princess will instead fall asleep for 100 years.
With a classical score by Tchaikovsky and original choreography by Marius Petipa, The Sleeping Beauty is considered one of the greatest ballets from Imperial Russia.
This thrilling production is by Birmingham Royal Ballet’s former director Sir Peter Wright, creator of the company’s popular production of The Nutcracker. With its romantic finale packed with every fairytale character imaginable, The Sleeping Beauty is as engaging now as when she first fell asleep, over a hundred years ago.

Damian Lewis leads an outstanding ensemble with Tara Fitzgerald, Keira Knightley and Dominic Rowan in Martin Crimp's blistering version of Molière's greatest comedy, The Misanthrope.
Transported from 17th century Paris to modern-day London, Alceste (Damian Lewis) is a famous British playwright disillusioned and angry with the hypocrisy, shallowness and vanity of the contemporary world. Vowing to reject society, Alceste's plans are derailed when he falls madly in love with Jennifer (Keira Knightley). An ambitious American film star and darling of the social scene, she may prove to be his biggest challenge yet.

Belmonte’s lover Constanze is being held captive by Pasha Selim. If Belmonte is going to rescue Constanze he will have to get past the Pasha’s steward Osmin first. This may not necessarily sound like the premise of a comedy but The Abduction from the Seraglio is one of Mozart’s wittiest and most delightful creations.
The joyous overture suggests a boisterous sense of fun, which is carried right through to the final curtain with stratospheric arias and blissful ensembles along the way. Rinaldo Alessandrini, known to WNO audiences for his interpretations of Monteverdi, returns to conduct this glorious comedy.
James Robinson’s stylish production is irresistibly entertaining, setting the opera on the Orient Express of the 1920s en route from Paris to Istanbul.
Cast includes Lisette Oropesa as Constanze, Petros Magoulas as Osmin, Claire Ormshaw as Blonde and Wynne Evans as Pedrillo.
The Abduction from the Seraglio is sung in German with an electronic surtitles screen above the stage carrying transalations in English.

No-one is safe in the Rome of 1800. Under Baron Scarpia corruption and suspicion hang over the city, virtue and humanity are cruelly stamped out.
The world of opera singer Floria Tosca is about to be turned upside down. She is suspicious of her lover Mario’s fidelity. Little does she realize that he is at the centre of a struggle that will lead to tragedy. Soon she herself will become the object of Scarpia’s insatiable lust and she will be forced to ask what she has done to deserve this.
Once decried as a "shabby little shocker", Tosca has become one of the best loved of all operas. The combination of its fast paced plot, high tension and the poignancy of the great arias "Vissi d’arte" and "E lucevan le stelle" ensure that Tosca never fails to enthral.
Michael Blakemore’s period set production of this pulsating thriller promises to set your emotions on a knife-edge.
Cast includes Elisabete Matos as Floria Tosca, Geraint Dodd as Cavaradossi, Robert Hayward as Scarpia.

Bizet’s most famous creation is full to the brim with instantly recognizable music and paints a mesmerizing picture of a Spain teeming with fascinating characters. Carmen herself is one of the most charismatic and hard to resist characters in opera. For a century and a half audiences the world over have fallen in love with her. Patricia Bardon returns to this production as Carmen with Welsh tenor Gwyn Hughes Jones reprising the role of Don José.
Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser’s production distils Bizet’s masterpiece right down to its essence.
Cast includes Patricia Bardon as Carmen, Gwyn Hughes Jones as Don José, David Soar as Escamillo, Sarah-Jane Davies as Micaëla, Henry Waddington as Zuniga, Joanne Boag as Frasquita and Carolyn Dobbin as Mercedes.
Co-production with Scottish Opera.
